History
Big Brothers began in 1972 servicing the Lynchburg area and expanded its program to include service to Bedford City and the counties of Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford and Campbell in 1973. In 1977, the agency again expanded to include Big Sister services. The Site Based program was implemented in 1996 serving the youth of Bedford County.
This program has now expanded to 27 schools including Prince Edward and Buckingham counties. BBBS of Central Virginia serves over 600 children annually. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Virginia is a United Way member agency.
